Northwest Folklife

Organized by Northwest Folklife

Your Community. Your Traditions. Your Folklife!

Your Support is Needed!

For the past 37 years, Northwest Folklife has brought together the communities of the Pacific Northwest to celebrate, share and discover the beauty of our different cultures and traditions.

In order to keep the Northwest Folklife Festival FREE to all would like to come, and to continue bringing year-round programs and resources to the communities we serve, we need your help!

Basic costs continue to rise every year, and with a down-turned economy, funding for arts and culture organizations like Northwest Folklife is quickly dissipating.

We need your help to fund programs such as:

The Northwest Folklife Festival:
*The largest FREE community arts Festival in the nation!
*Held every year for 4 days over Memorial Day weekend
*250,000 people attend the Festival each year

To produce the Festival each year, it takes:
*12 months
*A staff of 12 year-round employees
*7,000 (volunteer) performers
*1,000 volunteers
*$2.5 million

Rhythm & Moves

*Immigrant Students learn West African drumming, dancing and singing.
*Students face challenges such as survivor trauma, cultural alienation, low self-esteem, familial pressure to work, poverty and even homelessness.

"[Through Northwest Folklife's Rhythm & Moves after-school program], we've seen the direct positive connection between the students' self-confidence, academic success and their appreciation for their new home of Seattle."
Martin O'Callaghan, Principal
